In this little how to I will show you have to make the most of Flash 8’s transparency. This is only supported with the new Flash 8 video codec ON2 VP6. I have created a little example output here. This is 2 different FLVs one in one layer of the SWF the other on the next layer.

  1. First key out whatever you want transparent in After Effects (a great keying plugin to use is The Foundry Keylight)
  2. Render the movie out of After Effects (control/command M)
  3. Settings for render
    • click on the word lossless
    • make sure you use quicktime as you output format
    • set your compressor to Animation
    • be sure to set your channels to RGB + ALPHA

  4. Click OK, next click Render
  5. Now in the Flash Video Encoder application that comes with Flash 8 Professional click add to add the video you just rendered out of After Effects.
  6. Once added click on settings
  7. Click show advance settings
  8. Click the little check box next to Encode alpha channel

  9. Click OK, next click Start Queue
  10. You now have a Flash FLV with transparency.
